Rebecca’s joy and commitment to mastery shows up in everything she does. She is such a hard-worker and a lover of all things music and violin. Her passion for violin pedagogy and the integrity of her art truly exudes as she studies and translates all of her training to serve the developmental needs of each of her students. She cultivates a learning environment that is fun and engaging while also teaching the foundations of violin technique that she’s mastered while studying the Violin Technique Method.

Rebecca describes her teaching philosophy and studio culture as follows:

“‘Practice makes permanent.’ I wish I could remember the wonderful orchestra director who taught me this as it has impacted not only my musical life, but my personal life as well. As a recovering perfectionist, this new approach to the old saying, ‘practice makes perfect’ has been revolutionary in my approach to teaching the violin.

My main goal for teaching violin is to help each student learn the joy and freedom of being lifelong learners and to not get pulled into the trap of perfectionism that often plagues musicians. I teach following a gentle, sequenced path of technical work that when practiced, allows students to create solid and permanent foundations to their technique. Once they have ‘paved the path’ of solid technique and independent learning, so to speak, they are free to run ahead and play music in any genre that might spark their interest!

Playing music is fun, and I also believe that incorporating fun into the hard work of mastery is important for everyone! For children of all ages (yes, even children ages 18-98!), I love making learning and practicing fun, using games, stories, or simply by laughing! Not only does this encourage students to enjoy what they do, but it actually helps them learn better.”

Rebecca is currently teaching virtual and/or in-person lessons, violin lessons at all levels, and beginning piano lessons from her beautiful home in Saint Paul, Minnesota. You can connect with her for lessons via email: rebeccaplunkettviolin@gmail.com.
